Keeping your family safe

We recognise how important it is that we work closely with parents to ensure the messages children receive about online safety are consistent.

It is important that parents regularly speak to their children about how they can keep themselves safe and how to behave responsibly online.

Please remember the importance of monitoring what your child does online, including on mobile phones, tablets and when gaming, and of talking to them about what to do if anything inappropriate happens. If you have any questions, please talk to your child's class teacher, or ask your child!

There are a number of excellent websites with lots of information for children and parents:

	Help and advice for families in a digital world. Parent Info is a collaboration between Parent Zone and NCA-CEOP, providing support and guidance for parents from leading experts and organisations
	The CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) logo pictured here is on a lot of social networking sites. It is the Advice, Help and Report button. Clicking on it will take you to their website, where you can easily follow links for help if you are a parent or child. It is excellent, so please try it now!
	Highly recommended is the Thinkyouknow website. Click the image to go to the website and get the latest safety information.    This is an education initiative by CEOP - the UKs national law enforcement agency that focuses on tackling sexual abuse of children.
	CBBC Stay Safe is a super internet survival guide for you and your children. It includes all the tips and tricks you'll need to stay safe online, beat the cyber-bullies and become a super-surfer.
	Launched in January 2015, this campaign aims to raise awareness of how to help your child stay safe on social networks, apps and games. They have a useful guide to the social networks young people are using on their Net Aware.
	A printable pocket size leaflet that gives parents and carers points to consider and useful links to help you understand how to deal with online situations.

Action Planning

At Beech Grove we use the '360 degree safe' tool, which is intended to help schools review their online safety policy and practice. The review involves conducting an in-depth audit of each aspect of online safety, to identify what is working well at the school and how practice can be further developed. Using this information, a detailed action plan is produced which the online safety team is responsible for implementing and monitoring.
